Film Noir it's a term created by the French that means "dark film".
One of the quotations I picked from the documentary is "The hero takes identity of the dead man, the most desperate thing you could do in a Film Noir," Paul Aurthur a scholar. What this quot means is the antagonist or hero tries to go though a normal life until something turns up. Like the film Body Heat a lawyer named Ned was just doing his usual actives of have sex with all these women. One day he met his match when he met Matty, she was being resistant at first because she's married then finally gave in. Ned has his satisfaction of being with Matty then she talks about how she hates her husband and wants to be with Ned. Ned wants to help Matty kill her husband, but then gets into deeper trouble as he is helping her. Relating the quote is Ned gets involve with Matty's life and ends up suffering the consequences.
One of the things film noir is known for is using lighting techniques. What the lights would do is use the lights in a way so the audience can see certain things on the actor. The light also gives the actor the emotion that he or she is going though at the moment. The light would focus on the eyes to show their fear.
